From Perilous Past to Flourishing Future: A Simpsonville Landmark Reborn
The Burdette building, a 1921 cornerstone of Simpsonville’s identity, nearly faced the wrecking ball in 2002. Threatened by demolition for a pharmacy development, it found salvation in preservationists and the visionary stewardship of Four Oaks Property Group. Caldwell performed restorations to revitalize the main floor, welcoming retail and restaurant experiences. The long-dormant 9,600 SF second floor, once burdened by code challenges, has been revitalized as premium office space. The exterior has received an outdoor gathering space for the community. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, this project was given the South Carolina Historic Preservation Honor Award with a presentation by Governor McMaster.
